What to Expect

The Isle of Skye is one of Scotland’s most spectacular destinations, renowned for its dramatic landscapes.

The Old Man of Storr is the island’s best-known rock formation, offering spectacular views after a rewarding hike. The Quiraing features dramatic cliffs, rock pinnacles, and one of the country’s finest walking routes, while the Fairy Pools are known for their clear blue pools and waterfalls beneath the Cuillin Mountains. Neist Point Lighthouse is a popular spot for coastal views, sunsets, and wildlife including seabirds, dolphins, and whales.

The island’s natural wonders are also soaked in mythology. Skye is full of fairytale castles and ruins straight from legend. Explore historic Dunvegan Castle with its centuries of clan tales, the gorgeous grounds of Armadale Castle, and the unique Duntulum, a ruined Viking fortress. Other highlights include Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, the Fairy Glen, Talisker Bay, Elgol with its views of the Cuillin Ridge, and the Talisker Distillery.

Watching the seabirds circle above the waves or the seals relax on the rocks, it’s easy to see why this island has inspired so many tales of shape-shifting selkies and fairy princesses. And hiking through the stunning basalt formations on Skye make it easy to see why medieval crofters hid among these stones to evade Viking raiders. The “Misty Isle” is an unforgettable place to visit.
