What to Expect

Discover why Gateway Arch earned St. Louis the name “Gateway to the West” on this self-paced audio tour. We’ll walk about 1.5 miles along the riverfront near the Arch, then drive roughly 4 more miles through the city. The tour takes about 3 hours, but you might want to stay longer to explore everything St. Louis has to offer.

We’ll begin with striking views of the Arch and enter Gateway Arch National Park near the historic Old Courthouse. Along the way, you’ll hear stories tied to places like the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and learn about riverfront culture, blues history, and the great fire of 1849. Stop by Kiener Plaza to glimpse the city’s sports spirit, then pass the grand St. Louis Public Library and Old Post Office. The driving portion explores Forest Park, home to the St. Louis Zoo, World’s Fair Pavilion, scenic paths, and the Forest Park Fish Hatchery. The tour begins at the corner of Chestnut Street and North 7th Street, beside Kiener Plaza and across from Peabody Plaza. Enjoy exploring!
