What to Expect

Welcome to the home of that sweet Nashville sound. Explore downtown Nashville on a two-mile walking tour packed with the stories of country music’s biggest stars.

Start near the Cumberland River and stroll through The District, hearing about legends like Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Chet Atkins, Dolly Parton, and Taylor Swift. Explore sites like the Walk of Fame, Symphony Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and Music City Center.

This walk takes about half a day, but you may want extra time to dive deep into the stops here. Along the way, learn about the Grand Ole Opry, visit Ryman Auditorium and Legends Corner, and cross Broadway – better known as Honky Tonk Highway – where live music fills the streets. IS DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE A GOOD PLACE TO WALK AROUND?

Downtown Nashville is great for exploring the city on foot, with lots of music-related attractions and dining along the river.

WHERE SHOULD I GO IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE?

Lower Broadway is the main attraction street in Nashville. It’s known for vibrant nightlife, lots of live music, and iconic honkytonk bars. Country music museums and monuments line the blocks around Broadway.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR IN NASHVILLE?

Wear what makes you comfortable – Nashville has a casual feel, though some people like to dress up a little when enjoying the nightlife here. The breeze from the river can get chilly and its humid in the summer, so light layers are generally a good idea.

Music history buffs will enjoy it. It’s a historic district with recording studios, record labels, and music industry landmarks.

HOW LONG IS THE HONKY TONK HIGHWAY?

It’s fairly short – only about a block long, across Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville. It’s the best spot to experience Nashville’s iconic Honey Tonk scene.

ARE MUSIC ROW AND HONKY TONK HIGHWAY THE SAME THING?

No, Honky Tonk Highway and Music Row are not the same. Honky Tonk Highway is a stretch of bars in downtown Nashville, while Music Row is an area known for its recording studios and music industry offices.

WHERE IS THE GRAND OLE OPRY?

Its seven miles northeast of downtown Nashville in the Opry House. It’s well worth a visit though!

DOES THE RYMAN THEATER HAVE THE GRAND OLE OPRY?

Yes and no. The official headquarters of the Grand Ole Opry is in the Opry House, which houses the most shows, seven miles northeast. The Grand Ole Opry often stages shows at the historic Ryman Theater downtown though, so look into upcoming performances to see if there’s any artists you want to see when you’re in Nashville.
